Answers
- Are integers allowed at the third level? For example, can I register the following names:
8.8ol.name
12345.9999a.name
Yes. Both domains above would be allowed as registrations.
- Are special characters permitted in .name pre-registration? For example, can I register the following names:
r#k.baraniuk.name
rick@baraniuk.dfmm.name
No. Only the domain character set is allowed for registrations, this is [0-9], [A-Z] and hyphens.
- Are hyphen ( - ) and underscore ( _ ) characters allowed? If yes at what position and what are the limitations? For example, can I register the following names:
r--k.baraniuk.name
ri____ck.bara____niuk.name
ric__k.baraniu_k.name
Yes and no. Hyphens are allowed, but not in the third and fourth character positions. Underscores are not allowed.
- Are single characters allowed in the second and third levels? For example, can I register the following names?
a.a.name
r.r.name
One character is only allowed in the third level. Therefore you could register r.baraniuk.name but not r.b.name.
- Can names end with hyphen (-) and/or with underscore (_)? For example, can I register the following names?
rick.bara--.name
rick.bara___.name
No. As a standard domain rule, domains are not allowed to begin or end with a hyphen or an underscore.
- What is the maximum number of character allowed in domain (excluding .name)?
63 characters is the maximum allowed.
