Streaming Media allows you to have audio and video play in real time on your
web site with no downloading. No longer will you have to wait an excessive amount
of time to hear or view files. Productions created require a short buffer time to
load the data and then they play without further delay.
Streaming media is deployed in two ways: On-demand and Live.
On-Demand Video
This is the most common type of video/audio serving. On-demand video/audio means that a video file is created (encoded) and stored on our server until
a user requests that file typically via a web page. SelectNet provides you with your own content directory on our server for your encoded files.
In order to encode your files, you will need a video capture card and an audio card in your computer.
Most computers have audio cards so don't worry about that. More information about the Osprey video capture card can be found by clicking the link below.

Live Events
Live event streaming can be especially challenging. Through years of experience with Thoroughbred racing, SelectNet has
developed an understanding of the critical nature of this type of service. Each event is different, with its own set of challenges. We will work with
you and your team to provide a complete and successful cybercast. Call or e-mail us at info@select.net to discuss
your particular needs.
Media Server Streaming
Using a media server to stream your video content has some distinct benefits over
Web server. Since the media server is designed for media files, these files can be created (encoded) with multiple
speed stream. The media server is intelligent enough to know at what speed the user is connected and delivers
the stream at the appropriate speed, eliminating much of the choppiness found a couple of years ago.
This technology provides clear, uninterrupted audio and video to viewers even under high levels of network
congestion and poor dial-up connections. This technology can even dynamically
switch transmission rate during playback as network conditions change.
HTTP Streaming
HTTP streaming (using a web server) is an alternative approach to serving media files. Although this techniques is not
well-suited for high-volume sites serving numerous simultaneous streams,
many smaller Web sites can benefit tremendously from this simple and
inexpensive approach, which uses SelectNet's standard web server rather than the
specialized video server.
Encoding
Encoding is the process of creating the digital media file that is streamed on-demand or live.
The source can be digital file, video tape, or audio tape. Encoding is a very important aspect of
the media presentation. It is critical to encode the file so it will be compatible with your target audience's
connection speed and platform. SelectNet provides this service if desired.
Archiving Services
SelectNet can provide archiving services for your encoded media. This is especially useful with live presentations
that need to be recorded for later viewing or reference.
